Terms of Counselling
1. Session Times and Frequency
The agreed weekly time will be yours, unless circumstances outside your therapists or your control make it necessary for this to be reviewed, for the duration of your counselling.
Session fees are agreed based on time of session and employment/student status.
Charges will be reviewed each year and at least one month’s notice of any increase will be given. Payment can be made at the end of each session in cash or cheque. Payments can also be made in advance of sessions via bank transfer or our online payment facility.
3. Contact outside of sessions
The telephone numbers provided are for use in the case of cancellations, alterations or in case of emergency.
It is understood that there are times when contact may be required outside booked season times, the number provided however is not manned and messages will only be picked up on an irregular basis throughout the day. Messages will be replied to when possible.
4. Holidays and Cancellations
There will be a weekly charge for your session unless any of the following situations apply:
– You are on holiday. It is asked that as much notice as possible be given in this circumstance.
– Your therapist is unable to attend the session. Again, as much notice as possible will be given.
– An unforeseen emergency occurs (medical emergency/bereavement/major travel incident).
In other circumstances the weekly charge will still apply. If your therapist has alternative time-slots within that week, they will inform you of what these alternatives are.
If you are going to be less than 15 minutes late for a session there is no need to inform your therapist, if you are going to be any later than this it is expected that you would let your therapist know. They will not be able to work beyond the end of the agreed session.
You are free to end therapy at any time, but you are encouraged to speak to your therapist about this so an appropriate ending can be agreed between you.
It is possible that in certain circumstances your therapist may end your therapy. The reasons for this will be discussed with you as fully as possible.
It is a requirement for all practicing therapists to be in regular supervision and to undertake on-going training and self-development.
8. Confidentiality and the limits of confidentiality
The content of your sessions is confidential to you the client and your therapist, although they will need to discuss your work together with their supervisor. This is standard practice and helps your therapist to work as well as they can with you. In this process your identity is not revealed. The supervisor is bound by the BACP and/or UKCP or BPS Ethical framework for good practice.
In exceptional circumstances, where your therapist is concerned for your well being, or that of others, they may find it necessary to seek help outside the Counselling relationship; they would always and in the first instance, where appropriate, seek to gain your agreement to this.
In the unlikely event of there being an issue with your therapist attending a session, it may be necessary for another BetterMind therapist to contact you.
9. Ethics and code of conduct
All our therapists are members of professional bodies and work within their ethical frameworks. A copy of the specific ethical framework for each individual therapists memberships can be found on their profiles.
