Couples Counselling addresses the problems arising within our intimate relationships. The relationship, rather than the two individuals, is the ‘client’.
Our very closest relationship be that a marriage; co-habitation or civil partnership, is based on intimacy and trust. If this relationship runs into trouble we can be affected deeply and our health and happiness may suffer. Our central relationship can be a source of great happiness and fulfilment and can cause great distress if it fails.
Couples counselling can be a positive experience and can help facilitate growth, change and alleviate conflict. It can be particularly helpful when one or both of you are feeling misunderstood, isolated or when negative and destructive patterns of behaviour have become apparent. Communication may have broken down and you may be finding it difficult to see a way forward. Couples counselling otherwise referred to as relationship counselling or, marriage counselling is an opportunity to air hurt and angry feelings in a safe, private and controlled setting. It can offer new insights into the ways you are communicating and experiencing each other, help clarify thoughts and feelings, and can help free you to find new, more positive, ways of relating.
